If I Stay remains Gayle Forman’s best book to date. ‘If I Stay’ tells the story of the character of Mia Hall, a 17-year-old music lover, who after a catastrophe that left her family dead, has to decide between staying and living or not.

‘Where She Went’ is the sequel to ‘If I Stay.’ It narrates from Adam’s perspective three years after Mia’s accident. Adam eventually meets Mia after her leaving him for Julliard, and their chemistry rekindles.

Just One Day‘ follows the life of Allyson Haeley, a woman with a stereotypically well-planned life who meets Willem, a free-spirited actor. Willem tells Allyson to abandon her plans and come to Paris with him, and she says yes, an offer that changes her life.

‘Just One Year’ is the sequel to ‘Just One Day,’ and it follows the story of Willem, who wakes up to realize he was all alone again and that he needed to find the girl with whom he had a connection even though they were only together for a night.

Early Life

Gayle Forman was born on June 5, 1970, in her hometown, Los Angele, California. She attended school and college in California. Gayle worked as a freelance correspondent for several publications such as Cosmopolitan, The Nation, Elle Magazine, and in 2002, she went on a world tour with her husband, Nick. With them visiting a total of 64 countries and Gayle writing about her best and worst country experiences, Gayle began picking interest in young adult stories.

After her tour, Gayle published her first young adult novel, ‘Sisters in Sanity.’ Gayle Forman has two children with Nick, and they currently stay in Brooklyn, New York.

Literary Career

Gayle Forman started her career writing for Seventeen magazine, with most of her articles focusing on social issues concerning young people. After working for Seventeen magazine, Gayle became a freelance journalist and worked for various publications, including Details and Jane. After her tour with her husband, Gayle became interested in writing novels, and in 2007 she released her first novel, ‘Sisters in Sanity.’ 

After publishing her first book, Gayle Forman wrote her second book, ‘If I Stay,’ which rapidly catapulted her to the limelight. With the publication of ‘If I Stay,’ Gayle became popular in the writing world and went on to create other exceptional novels, including the sequel to ‘If I Stay,’ ‘Where She Went,’ ‘Just One Day,’ and ‘Just One Year.’ Gayle published more books like ‘Just One Night,’ a 50-page novella, and ‘I Was Here.’
