Industry

The major industry of District 6 is transportation. The people of District 6 thereby produce various kinds of automobiles and infrastructure necessary to develop transportation within the country. This includes the high-speed train that takes Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark to the Capitol after the Reaping. Despite specializing in transport, however, the residents of District 6 generally dislike traveling.

Location and Geography

District 6 is the largest in the nation. Its population is nearly four times that of District 2, which is the second-largest district in Panem. It is located in the mid-west region of North America, covering most of Michigan and Wisconsin as well as the southern region of Ontario, the Canadian Province. The mid-west is typically known for the automotive industry (especially Michigan).

District 6 is the third district from the east (according to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes). It is bordered by District 3 (in the south and the east), 9 (in the northwest), and 13 (in the east).

Notable Tributes from District 6

Otto and Ginnee – Otto and Ginnee are the male and female tributes reaped for the 10th Hunger Games. Both die during a rebel bombing that occurred in the Capitol before the Hunger Games even began.

Titus – An infamous tribute from an unspecified Hunger Games that went insane and resorted to cannibalism to survive the Games. However, he was killed by an avalanche, which was most likely introduced by the Gamemakers as the Capitol would ideally not want an insane victor. This incident forced the Capitol to introduce certain rules into the Hunger Games, the most notable of which was forbidding cannibalism amongst the tributes.

The male and female tributes in the 74th Hunger Games – They are killed in the Initial Bloodbath at the Cornucopia on the very first day of the Games.

The Morphlings – The male and female tributes reaped for the Third Quarter Quell in Catching Fire. They are a part of the rebel network designed to keep Katniss alive for the Second Rebellion. Katniss nicknames them “the Morphlings” due to their severe morphling addiction. The male morphling dies in the Initial Bloodbath on the first day while the female morphling dies on the second day.

Besides the above, an unspecified male victor and an unspecified female victor from District 6 are also mentioned in the novels. They are both present in the reaping of the Third Quarter Quell, during which tributes were reaped from each district’s existing pool of victors.

Morphling Addiction

It has been speculated amongst fans that District 6 has a secondary industry, which is the pharmaceutical industry. This might be the reason for the abundance of morphling (a kind of narcotic painkiller used in the treatment of injuries) in the district. Another theory for the abundance of morphling is that it is probably administered widely to treat injuries sustained in the transport industry.

Morphling addiction is widespread in the district. The victors chosen to participate in the Third Quarter Quell were so addicted to morphling (most likely to numb their past experiences during the Hunger Games) that Katniss nicknames them, “the Morphlings.”
