The Reaping of the 73rd Hunger Games
The male and female tribute from District 12 were reaped from the Seam. Effie Trinket, the escort for the tributes from District 12 comments on the poor table manners that the two tributes had on the train to the Capitol. She called them a couple of savages for eating everything with their hands. Katniss recalls that the pair of them had never had a decent meal to eat in their lives.
“At least, you two have decent manners,” says Effie as we’re finishing the main course. “The pair last year ate everything with their hands like a couple of savages. It completely upset my digestion.”

Not much is known about the chariot rides at the Tribute Parade, and the training session with the Gamemakers.
Interviews of the 73rd Hunger Games
Caesar Flickerman was the host of the pre-Games interview for this edition of the Games as well. Caesar wore his ceremonial midnight blue suit that was dotted with tiny electric bulbs. His hair was dyed crimson, while his lips and eyes were made up with the same color.
While recalling the interviews of the previous year, Katniss mentions that he looked frightening as it appeared as if he was bleeding. The individual interviews of the tributes were not depicted either in the book or the movie.
“Remember this year? Oh, one of my favorite years and one of my favorite arenas. The use of the rubble, the ruined city, very exciting. And this moment here, this moment is a moment you’ll never forget. The moment when a tribute becomes a victor.”

In the Arena: Bloodbath and After
The arena was a ruined city, with buildings that were destroyed and rubble everywhere. An early version of the script of ‘The Hunger Games‘ notes this city to be Aspen, Colorado, 300 years from now. Sage Blanken was the name of the male tribute from District 12. His parents were Corrina and Tygart Blanken. Corrina and Tygart were friendly with Katniss as they did business with each other at the Hob.
This is probably the only Games where the initial Cornucopia Bloodbath took place on the second day of the Games instead of the first. At least eight tributes were a part of the battle at the Cornucopia including Sage Blanken. His district partner from District 12 died the previous day.
At the Bloodbath, Sage is pursued by several other tributes, whose weapons include a spear, a knife, a whip, and a bow and arrows. Sage escapes from these tributes. However, he is killed by Prospero, the tribute from District 3.
Victor of the 73rd Hunger Games
In an early script from the archives of ‘The Hunger Games,’ Gale Hawthorne tells Katniss that he thought that the male from District 2 would win the Games, while they were hunting in the Woods. His prediction turns out to be true.
Towards the end of the Games, the only two tributes remaining are the male from District 2 and the male from District 10. The District 2 tribute bludgeons the District 10 boy with a brick and kills him, thereby emerging the victor for this edition of the Games.
Aftermath of the 73rd Hunger Games
The 73rd Hunger Games was the last Games to have a single Victor. The following edition of the Games, i.e., the 74th Hunger Games had 2 victors: Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. The 75th Hunger Games, or the Third Quarter Quell, did not have a Victor at all as the arena was destroyed before a Victor could emerge.
The 73rd Hunger Games was also the last edition of the Games to have a Career Tribute as a Victor. The winner of these Games, i.e., the District 2 male, was most likely killed during the Victors’ Purge that occurred after the Third Quarter Quell.
