Lily Luna Potter was a British witch and the youngest daughter of Harry Potter and Ginny Potter (née Weasley). She was first seen in the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in which she was accompanying her parents to say goodbye to her two older brothers who were going to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Lily Luna Potter was born in the early 2000s, between 2007 and 2008, as she was around nine years old in 2017 when she was seen at king’s Cross. Her appearance and demeanor are very similar to her mother, Ginny Weasley, as she inherited red hair from the Weasley family. She was around the same age as her cousin brother Hugo-Granger Weasley and was best friends with him as she had an animated discussion with him about how they would go to Hogwarts and which house they would get sorted into.
Lily Luna’s Birth
Lily Luna Potter was born in England, most likely between September 2007 and August 2008. She was the youngest child of the Potters and was younger than both her eldest brother James Potter II and elder brother Albus Potter. Her mother, Ginny Weasley, and her father Harry Potter decided to name her after Harry’s late mother Lily Evans, and her middle name was a tribute to Harry and Ginny’s friend Luna Lovegood whom Harry met when he was in his fifth year. Interestingly, Luna is the only person alive whose name was given to the Potter children. Lily was a very well-behaved child, and it is believed that when she attended the 2014 Quidditch World Cup at Patagonian Island, Rita Skeeter had written nothing about her despite writing loads about other members of the family.
Her Family
Lily Luna Potter was the daughter of Harry Potter, the famous boy wizard, the Chosen One, the Boy Who Lived, and the wizard who finally defeated the Dark Wizard Lord Voldemort in the Battle of Hogwarts. Her mother was Ginny Weasley, the youngest daughter of Arthur and Molly Weasley, who were Lily’s maternal grandparents. Her paternal grandfather was James Potter, whom her elder brother James was named after. Her paternal grandmother was Lily Potter (née Evans), several of whose traits Lily Luna Potter had been observed to have inherited, especially her cheerfulness. Lily’s closest aunt and uncle were Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, especially due to their close friendship with Harry Potter and also her mother, Ginny Weasley. Their daughter Rose Weasley (Rose Granger-Weasley) was Lily’s cousin, as was Hugo Granger-Weasley, who was around the same age as Lily.
Hogwarts
Lily was very excited to go to Hogwarts, as was evident from her cheery excited demeanor in the King’s Cross Station when she came to bid farewell to her brothers. Her interest and eagerness to go to Hogwarts were reminiscent of her mother, Ginny Weasley’s excitement when she came to the station in September 1991 to say goodbye to her brothers. It is believed that Luna did inherit a lot of characteristics from her mother, including her appearance and the excitement to go to Hogwarts. The latter may, however be an effect of both of them growing up with older brothers who would get to go to Hogwarts before them. Lily would eventually go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and gets sorted into Gryffindor House like the rest of her family, except Albus Severus Potter, who was sorted into Gryffindor with his best friend, Scorpius Malfoy.
Appearance in the Harry Potter Universe
Lily Luna Potter first appears in the Harry Potter Universe in the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. She is seen accompanying her parents and brothers to the King’s Cross Station, to Platform Nine-and-Three-Quarters, where she excitedly points out to Ron and Hermione, who are already there to drop their daughter Rose Granger-Weasley. Ron and Lily have some funny banter about Ron being the reason everybody at the station is staring at them, and later, Lily voices her excitement about going to Hogwarts. She also discusses this with Hugo Granger-Weasley, her cousin, who seems equally excited to get into Hogwarts. Lily also sounds very excited about the prospect of her Teddy Lupin, the son of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks and the godson of Harry Potter, dating Victoire Weasley, her cousin, and daughter of Bill and Fleur Weasley. She hopes that they will someday get married and Teddy can become an actual family member.
Later in the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Lily goes to King’s Cross Station in 2019 for her journey on the Hogwarts Express. She goes to Hogwarts and is sorted into Gryffindor House. Her father, Harry, gifts her fluttering fairy wings before she attends Hogwarts, and she likes this gift a lot. She receives this along with her brothers, who also receive gifts respectively. James Potter receives the Invisibility Cloak, which he had wanted for a long time and Albus Potter receives the blanket that his grandmother Lily wrapped his father, Harry, in when he was a baby.
