James Sirius Potter, or James Potter II, was the eldest among the three children of Harry Potter and Ginevra Potter. Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger were his uncle and aunt and were also his godparents. James was four years older than his sister Lily Luna Potter and two years older than Albus Severus Potter, his younger brother. James was born in the year 2004 and joined Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in September 2015 at the age of eleven. James was sorted into Gryffindor house to nobody’s surprise, like all of his family members, until his younger brother Albus Potter would be sorted into Slytherin house two years after James’ Sorting Ceremony.

Appearance And Personality

James resembled his father with his hairstyle and appearance, although he was not known to wear spectacles. He had a close bond with both his parents and had several characteristics and traits of his father, Harry, and his grandfather James in his proclivity for mischief. He also had a lot in common with his uncle Ron as they would both unknowingly get entangled in their friends’ and relatives’ love lives as James saw Harry’s godson Teddy Lupin kissing Victoire Weasley in the Hogwarts Express at the King’s Cross Station. He was similar to Fred and George Weasley when it came to his humour and constant mischief. This was probably also a common trait between him and his father’s godfather, Sirius. James was constantly pranking his younger siblings, Albus and Lily.

Family Background

James Sirius Potter was born into the Potter family, which was one of the most popular families, especially after Lord Voldemort was vanquished by Harry Potter in the Battle of Hogwarts. He was also a part of the Potter-Weasley extended family, which had almost every famous witch and wizard of this time. His closest cousins were Rose Granger-Weasley and Hugo Granger Weasley, probably owing to the proximity in the lives of Harry, Ginny, Hermione, and Ron. His other cousins, Victoire Weasley, Dominique Weasley, Fred Weasley II, Roxanne Weasley, and several others, were also quite popular in their own right as they were all children of the members of the Order of the Phoenix.

Early Life

James was born in the year 2004 in England. He was the eldest child of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley and was made the godson of Ron and Hermione, Harry’s best friends and Ginny’s brother and sister-in-law (also a friend). He witnessed the birth of his younger siblings, Albus and Lily. He was present at the 2014 Quidditch World Cup along with the rest of his family. Amidst the chaos, he was seen laughing at his brother Albus who almost fell off the VIP during the match. Noting this, Rita Skeeter, the controversial reporter from The Daily Prophet, accused James of pushing Albus, even though nobody probably took these allegations seriously.

Life At Hogwarts

James joined Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in September 2015. He boarded the Hogwarts Express at the King’s Cross Station and waved goodbye to his parents, siblings, and his godparents. He was sorted into Gryffindor’s house and made several new friends there. He is believed to have thoroughly enjoyed his first year at Hogwarts, unlike his brother, Albus, who had a very difficult time in his first year two years later due to being sorted into Slytherin and only being friends with Scorpius Malfoy, the son of Draco Malfoy.

It is believed that James once stole the Marauder’s Map from his father’s desk drawer, making it very interesting that he was also named after two Marauders, James, and Sirius.

James’ Possessions

James possessed the Marauder’s Map, a magical relic that was created by his grandfather, after whom he is named, his friend after whom he is also named, and two of their other friends. It was in possession of Harry Potter, his father, who used it to great effect during several of his adventures. It is believed that James stole it from his father’s desk drawer and was known to use it for adventures of his own. James bought a wand before he joined Hogwarts, most likely from Ollivanders, although the exact make and type of the wand are not known. James was also seen carrying an owl in a cage in the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Besides, James was gifted his father’s Invisibility Cloak before he went to Hogwarts for his sixth year. However, this cloak was later stolen from him by his younger brother Albus for an important mission. It turned out to be an easy task because the combination for James’ safe was the year he bought his first broomstick. James also possessed a joke comb gifted to him by his uncle and godfather, Ron Weasley. This comb would turn a person’s hair the shade of pink if they combed their hair with this comb.

The Differences Between James and Albus

James and Albus were both the sons of Harry and Ginny. James was two years older than Albus. However, the two were very different from each other. James was a carefree kid who, like his father, was interested in Quidditch and was very outgoing socially. Albus, on the other hand, had to live up to the expectations of people after being named after two of the greatest wizards of their time. Albus was sorted into Slytherin and was one of the only members of their family to go into Slytherin, unlike James, who was sorted into Gryffindor like everybody else in their family. Also, James’s friends were mostly from his own house or Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, whereas Albus’s closest friend Scorpius was from Slytherin and the son of Draco Malfoy, their father, Harry Potter’s arch-enemy.
