Development: Throughout the story, Luca is shown to be a brutal, fierce, strong and horrific killer. He is an assassin for the Corleone family and he takes his job seriously. He is the only one, that the Don fears in his life.
Significance: Luca’s significance in the story is that of a man who is ruthless and ready to kill people. He is an enforcer of law, a hit man and an assassin for the Corleone family. He respects no one except Don Vito.

Development: Even though the Godfather novel is a work of fiction, it is generally belived that the role of Johnny Fontaine is closely related to the life of Frank Sinatra, a famous American singer. Frank is believed to have succeeded from hbeing connected to the mafia and their mob.
Significance: The major significane of Johnny’s story in he novel is that some famous celebrities get to the top of their careers with the help of some bad influence. Althugh some might debate if the ifluence is bad, but we see ‘The Godfather’ make his famous quote of an offer due to Johnny.

Role: Villain to the protagonist

Background: Virgil Sollozzo also known as The Turk, is the villain in the story. He is a drug lord and is always looking for a way to expand his drug business.
Personality: Virgil came to visit Don Vito and asked him to invest in the drug business as he believed that the future would be favorable to the drug business. But the Don turned him down and he decided to eliminate him.
Development: In the story we see how The Turk develops into a ruthless enemy of the Corleones. He felt slighted when the Don declined his offer and ultimately set up a hit on him and even later on his son.
Significance: Virgil Sollozzo’s action of putting out a hit on the mafia lord sets up the major conflict in the book. He started the high stakes and treacherous alliances with the other families, especially the ones that hated the Corleones most. All these created the main plot of the story.
