After its publication, ‘The Girl on the Train‘ was made into a film and premiered on September 20, 2016, in London. It was written by Erin Cressida Wilson and directed by Tate Taylor.

The movie starred actors like Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux, Lisa Kudrow, and Luke Evans. While the movie is similar to the novel, there are apparent differences in the setting, characters’ history, and conclusion.

The cinematography was done by the Danish Charlotte Bruus Christensen and edited by Michael McCusker and Andrew Buckland. The filming locations were majorly in New York and New City, USA. While some scenes were in Manhattan and Westchester. Universal Pictures obtained the film’s distribution rights from Disney as a segment of their distribution contract with Amblin Partners, a parent company of DreamWorks.

The almost two-hour-long movie grossed $173 million worldwide and got nominated for a few awards, including The 2017 People’s Choice Award for Favorite Thriller Movie and Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2017 Writers Guild of America Awards.

The American review-aggregation website for film and television, Rotten Tomatoes, scored the novel with an approval rating of 44%. Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times also rated the movie 2 out of 4 stars stating that the plot began with promise but grew increasingly melodramatic. Other critics have judged the movie’s hollow and overly predictable plot.

Into the Water

Paula Hawkins’ second novel was published two years after the successful ‘The Girl on the Train.’ Like her previous psychological thriller, the screen adaptation was to be produced by Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks. According to the American media company, Variety, the intense novel was set for the big screen. La La Land and Jared LeBoff Platt were to be producers. Presently, there is no announcement about the movie’s first appearance.
