Hyle Hunt is stubborn but calm and gallant. He has a plain face, hazel eyes, brown hair, a crooked nose, and a scar on his left ear. Hyle is a bit shorter than Brienne, standing at five feet ten inches. He wears a white surcoat, rides a courser, and wields a sword.


Hyle Hunt served House Tarly at Horn Hill. He saved Samwell Tarly from drowning after his father tried teaching him to swim in a pond. Though unsure of how many children he had, he knew about one of his daughters. However, her mother prevented him from visiting.

A Clash of Kings

Renly Baratheon gathers his men to march on King’s Landing during the War of the Five Kings. Some men, including Ser Ben Bushy, Ser Edmund Ambrose, and Hyle Hunt make a wager on who can take Brienne’s maidenhead. Hyle brings carrots and apples for Brienne’s horse to convince her to sleep with him. He gets her a book and a blue silk plume for her helm. Hyle makes Brienne laugh and gives her gossip and news spreading in the camp. When Lord Randyll learns of the bet, he ends it.

A Feast for Crows

When Radyll Tarly takes control of Maidenpool, he tasks Hyle Hunt with commanding one of the town’s gates. Hyle meets Brienne and laments about his situation. He follows her through the Crackclaw Point until he catches up with her at the Whispers, where she kills some former Brave Companion members, Shagwell, Pyg, and Timeon. Hyle suggests taking the heads of the fallen men to Lord Randyll. He tells him of Brienne’s valor, and Randyll dismisses Hyle from his service.

Hyle Hunt joins Brienne on the mission given to her by Ser Jaime Lannister to find Sansa and Arya. He, Brienne, and Podrick Payne travel through the Riverlands, arriving at the destruction of the Saltpans. They then arrive at the Inn at the Crossroads. Hyle asks Brienne to marry him, but she refuses. She tries leaving but gets confronted by Rorge and Biter.

A fight ensues, and though the former members of the Brave Companions get killed, Brienne sustains serious injury. With her unconscious, Hyle Hunt and Podrick get taken into custody by the Brotherhood without Banners. Under the leadership of Lady Stoneheart, Hyle gets beaten up badly until his face is unrecognizable. He gets sentenced to death for siding with the Lannisters, and after he and Podrick get hanged, Brienne screams out a word.

Hyle Hunt: A Valiant Soldier

Though Hyle had flaws, he was an honorable soldier who fought for what he believed in. He was not perfect, but he was a courageous fighter who helped Brienne on her mission to find the Stark girls and return them home.


What happened to Hyle Hunt?

After meeting Brienne at Maidenpool, Hyle Hunt follows her to the Whispers. Brienne gets into a fight with some outlaws, and after killing them, Hyle suggests they bring their heads to Lord Randyll Tarly. Lord Randyll fres Hyle from his service, and the knight follows Brienne on her mission to find Sansa Stark.

Did Hyle Hunt get killed in A Feast for Crows?

Hyle Hunt’s fate in ‘A Feast for Crows’ is unknown. He was sentenced to death after he and Brienne got arrested by the Brotherhood without Banners. However, while he and Podrick Payne got hanged, Brienne screamed a word.

Was Hyle Hunt a better fighter than Brienne?
